The Application

Following a specific requirement to engineer and manufacture a hot air welding
machine for sapling protectors, TF Automation has recognised that this technology is
relevant to numerous applications, from point of sale to packaging.

Hot Air Welding Machine

The hot air welding machine ensures a consistent quality of weld through a standard solution where the process variables are closely monitored and controlled. These can be adjusted to accommodate any change in material thickness or changing factory conditions, to provide a consistent and reliable seal. The speed and compress of the weld is critical for all applications with the hot air only energised when a product is present so reducing the ambient working temperature and machine running costs.

TF Automation is aware of more demand for sapling protection tubes due to the increase in various planting programmes by the Forestry Commission and other organisations. Planting is required on embankments around new rail and road infrastructure and to help with the retention of water to minimise localised flooding. TF Automation designed and manufactured a bespoke machine that uses hot air to weld sapling protection tubes. The company found that in many cases tubes were being glued by hand, stapled or tie-wrapped, which was not only time consuming but lacking in consistency and product standardisation.

The machine is hand fed but will vastly increase the number of tubes that can be produced which was vital to the client. Taking into consideration the environmental impact of using tree protectors, the tubes are manufactured from UV-stabilised polypropylene, that is 100% recyclable.
